Top 7 countries where you can take a puff without consequences! (Disclaimer: Illegal possession of marijuana isn't cool bruh) Smoking weed is completely fine in some countries whereas, in others, it is an activity that is highly frowned upon.  Well, that aside, here is a list of the top seven countries where smoking this leaf of happiness won't have you in a mess. 7.Mexico  As the law prescribed in 2018, Marijuana possession was criminalized. This was nothing new to Mexicans, where Cannabis had been illegal since 1920. In 2009, personal possession of this substance was decriminalized. However, medical usage of this substance was legal since 2017.  What may come as a relief for marijuana lovers in Mexico is that, in March 2021, a bill has been passed legalizing recreational marijuana, which was expected to go before the Senate by April 30, 2021. If the Bill gets passed, then Marijuana usage for recreational purposes will be completely legal. 6.Jamaica In Jamaica, pos...

BLM Protestors Taste Justice

Image
BLM Protestors Taste Justice Good news for the BLM Protestors. Former Minneapolis Officer Derek Chauvin was convicted on Tuesday of murder and manslaughter for pinning George Floyd to the pavement with his knee. He has been found guilty on 3 counts of manslaughter and murder and could be sent to prison for decades. Floyd, 46, died on May 25 2020 after being arrested on suspicion of using a fake 20$ bill to pay for a pack of cigarettes at a corner shop. He was scared, pleaded that he was claustrophobic and struggled with police when they tried to put him in a squad car. They pinned him to the ground instead. The main evidence of the case was the excruciating bystander video of Floyd gasping repeatedly, “I can’t breathe” and bystanders yelling at Chauvin to stop what he was doing as the officer pressed his knee on or near Floyd’s neck for what authorities say was 9 and a half minutes. Life slowly started ebbing away from Floyd as he went limp and silent. Doctors and medical experts for t...

Can minors date in India?

Image
Can minors date in India? Suffice to say, this question needs to be addressed with all urgency. Can two minors indulge in a consensual sexual relationship with each other? Most sources say that consent of a minor for sexual intercourse cannot be considered legal consent in any way. We also need to note the fact that a minor/child in India refers to anyone below 18 years of age. This means that the age of consent-the legal age at which a person can give consent for sexual relationships is 18. This is relatively high in comparison to other countries of the world. The age of consent in the United Kingdom is 16, while the age of consent in The Philippines was until 2020, a surprising 12! While some countries like India and the US have high age of consent, countries like The Philippines have low age of consent, thus, the mean age of consent is challenged by extreme values. Snapping back to the topic, it is illegal for minors to indulge in any form of sexual relationship in India. Alth...

Does society need religion to uphold ethics?

Image
Does society need religion to uphold ethics? Nearly 93% of the world’s population are theists or people who believe in one/many God(s). Therefore, being theistic is a norm in each and every society of the world. Theists believe in a spiritual entity that supposedly is omnipotent and offers protection in exchange for worship. While this concept is not scientifically backed, it has billions of followers across the globe. One of the main arguments that theistic philosophers have put forth in response to the growing atheistic tenet that religion is unnecessary is that the concept of God, whether real or not, acts as the Almighty, watching over good and bad deeds, thus enforcing morals and ethics in a society.  Listening to this argument, one may perceive that religion is a guarantee of peace and harmony, but before one gets carried away, we must also look at the various violent acts that were religiously motivated, ISIS, KKK, RSS are all religious groups that have wreaked havoc ...

Is campaigning resistant to COVID-19?

Image
Is campaigning resistant to COVID-19? It’s been more than a year since India began its battle against the COVID -19 pandemic. In March 2020, the country was confronted with the emergence of the virus and a simultaneous lack of resources to tackle the same, especially medical infrastructure, and so the Indian government decided to go for a nationwide lockdown. Despite the negative consequences related to the economy, this firm measure helped to curb the spread of the virus while India acquired the necessary resources and began working on vaccines. Now India is in danger of facing a serious second wave where cases are rising exponentially and the response seems to be slow. One reason behind this is the heavy influence of politics that is rooted in almost every aspect of life in Indian society. Take, for example, the government’s reluctance to impose reasonable restrictions during public gatherings that took place from August last year. The election is another occasion that has been...

Why can't boys grow their hair long?

Image
Why can't boys grow their hair long? Schools speak of equality, our constitution speaks of equality, gender equality is trending everywhere, feminists voicing out the suppression of women even for the most subtle of causes. Agreed, society should treat all the genders equally. But things get complicated when inequality is practiced right in front of our eyes but is overlooked because the victim isn’t the quintessential sort of victim. Yes, we’re talking about men-the gender that is almost always overlooked these days. People who belong to other genders treat men like they are privileged in some way or the other, this puts the modern man in a state or situation where he is barred from even complaining about the misdeeds done against him. Schools in India generally have rigid rules that students have to follow, some of these rules are accepted as they make some sort of sense, some rules simply don’t make sense-like the one that prescribes that boys shouldn’t grow hair longer than 2...
