Top 7 countries where smoking weed is legal (or OKish)
Top 7 countries where you can take a puff without consequences!
(Disclaimer: Illegal possession of marijuana isn't cool bruh)
Smoking weed is completely fine in some countries whereas, in others, it is an activity that is highly frowned upon.
Well, that aside, here is a list of the top seven countries where smoking this leaf of happiness won't have you in a mess.
7.Mexico
As the law prescribed in 2018, Marijuana possession was criminalized. This was nothing new to Mexicans, where Cannabis had been illegal since 1920. In 2009, personal possession of this substance was decriminalized. However, medical usage of this substance was legal since 2017.
What may come as a relief for marijuana lovers in Mexico is that, in March 2021, a bill has been passed legalizing recreational marijuana, which was expected to go before the Senate by April 30, 2021. If the Bill gets passed, then Marijuana usage for recreational purposes will be completely legal.
6.Jamaica
In Jamaica, possession of small amounts of this happy leaf is just considered a petty crime, following a bill passed in 2015. Cannabis is locally known in the country as Ganja, is culturally a very important part of the country as it is linked to its cultural touchstones like Rastafari and reggae music.
Possession of up to 57 grams of this substance is considered a petty offense and will not land your credentials in a criminal record. Cultivation of up to 5 plants is legal. Practitioners of the Rastafari faith are allowed to use Cannabis for religious purposes.
5.Italy
Cannabis in Italy is legal for medical and industrial purposes, although these are strictly regulated. This is also decriminalized for recreational purposes. Although by decriminalization, we don't mean you go free, it's just that it's reduced to the status of a petty crime that can invite jurisdiction like suspension of documents (like one's driver's license)
There have been multiple efforts by citizens for the complete legalization of weed which have not been heeded to yet.
4.Canada
Canada is rather liberal in terms of Marijuana possession. It is legal for both recreational and medicinal purposes. The Federal Cannabis Act came into effect on 17 October 2018 and made Canada the second country to formally legalize the cultivation, possession, acquisition, and consumption of cannabis and its by-products.
It also happens to be the first G7 and G20 nation to take such a bold step.
3.The Netherlands
Smoking weed in coffee shops is a common sight one can come across in amazing Amsterdam! Yes, you heard that right. This European country has liberalized possession of cannabis to such extent that people from across the world consider Amsterdam, the Capital city, as one of the weed capitals of the world.
In 2017, partial cultivation of Cannabis was also approved.
2.Spain
Spain tends to be a collective favorite for weed smokers globally. Although cannabis in the country for commercial purposes is illegal, usage of the substance for personal cultivation, recreation is completely decriminalized. The only regulated or criminalized activities pertaining to cannabis in the country is sale or trade.
There are legal grey areas in Spain where cannabis clubs are a popular way for cannabis enthusiasts to obtain and use cannabis as a legal collective.
1.Uruguay
Cannabis is completely and formally legal in Uruguay and is one of the most widely used drugs in the entire nation.
President Jose Mujica signed legislation to legalize recreational cannabis in 2013, making Uruguay the first country in the modern era to legalize cannabis. One can grow up to 6 plants at home in this marijuana haven. What might blow your mind is that in October 2014, growing clubs were encouraged by the government where they could grow up to 99 crops!
